![]() The name “Echoes” actually has a double meaning. Q) What’s with the “Echoes” sub-title? Does this mean we’re getting more remakes? Yes, Casual Mode (where fallen allies return once the map ends) and Classic Mode (where fallen allies are gone forever) are both present. Q) Is Casual Mode still in the game? I’m afraid of losing units. Plus there are lots of subtle additions like Combat Arts that you can learn by training weapons, sub-quests dotted around the continent to make you feel helpful, medals to track your achievements (and to show off), etc. Alm and Celica each have their own parties and story progression upon reaching Act 3, you can switch between the two parties on the fly. Secondly, we have the dual protagonist system, which is different compared to other games. Bumping into enemies triggers short battles, similar to some RPGs. Inside dungeons, you control your character directly as the camera follows behind. The most obvious new addition is the 3D dungeons that you can freely explore. Q) Can you tell me more about the new gameplay features? Moreover, if you enjoy the characters element of the series, there are still ways for characters to shine in Echoes. While the Avatar and ability to pair characters has proven extremely popular for some, they aren’t staple to the series. Q) No Avatar or pairings? I’m outta here! It also boasts incredible production values that may even surpass Awakening and Fates, such as full voice acting for all dialogue scenes. From a gameplay standpoint, Echoes is indeed missing a couple of modern features, such as an Avatar, Pair Up, marriage and children.īut when considered alone, Echoes is an extremely well-made package with lots of unique gameplay features, including many not seen in the original Gaiden. Q) Since it’s a remake, does that mean it’s a step down from Awakening/Fates? That said, beside a few clever references, there is no advantage to playing any of the aforementioned games (and the references work in both directions). Not at all! In general, each Fire Emblem takes place in its own established world, although in the past some games were released as pairs.Įchoes (and Gaiden by extension) is unique in that it takes place between Shadow Dragon and Mystery of the Emblem and also 2000 years before Awakening. Q) Do I need to play previous Fire Emblems to understand the story? Note: Italian, German and Dutch are only available in the European version. Sure, if you know English, French, Italian, German, Spanish or Dutch. Q) Wait, does this mean I can (officially) experience Gaiden in a language I understand? It follows the story of two childhood friends Alm and Celica as they work individually to save Valentia from the threat of war and the troubles caused by a missing goddess. ![]() After you beat the dragon, don’t forget to visit the Seaboard Shrine Interior Dungeon before heading back out onto the ocean.Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia is a 3DS remake of the Japanese-exclusive Fire Emblem: Gaiden, which came out on the NES in 1992. And that’s it! With a little luck and some preparation, you’ll pull this one off without having to come back later. 6) Have Genny stay on top of healing duties in case the dragon manages to break free of the Illusory Soldiers. 5) Keep all other units away from the dragon or he’ll kill them. ![]() Level 3 or 4 Mages (and Celica) will only do 1 damage per attack, but if you’ve got a level 5 Mage, he or she can do 5 HP per attack. 4) The rest of your attacks should be magic spells. ![]() 3) Have Leon, equipped with an Iron Bow, firing arrows at the Dragon-if the Archer has reached level 4, he’ll do about 5 HP of damage per attack. With Valbar on one side and Illusory Soldiers surrounding the dragon on all other sides, he won’t be able to move for quite a few turns, so even though they do barely any damage to the dragon and it recovers 5 HP per turn, they’ll trap him long enough for you to take him out with long-range attacks. ![]() 2)Have Genny use Invoke to summon Illusory Soldiers to surround the dragon. The dragon’s attack stat of 15 is mighty high, but Valbar’s defense stat of 12 should absorb most of that damage. If your squad meets the right conditions, you might just be able to brute-force this battle if you do the following: 1)Have Valbar go head-to-head with the Necrodragon. He’s week to Seraphim magic, but we don’t even know what that is yet, much less where to get it! Okay, okay: it’s a Holy magic spell Celica learns at Level 5, and it’s extremely effective against Terrors… but we don’t really need it.
